Companies and Investments in our Economical Decline

Credit card companies and banks are sending letters out to there customers stating that they will increase the interest rates on the card as of a certain date. The best way to go around becoming in debt is avoiding the use of these credit cards in anyway we can. Maybe we could try to save money for more necessary things that come before the luxuries that we want and what we are used to. The more we save the easier it will be to stay out of debt, and by not using the credit cards; it will make it less stressful for people to know that we aren’t putting ourselves further into debt; especially because the interest rates are higher then they were, meaning that we will need to come up with more money then we did before. Our dollar is just becoming weaker day by day. The crisis in our economy is becoming larger and larger. Many things happening for the worse as the only thing we could do is try to help the downwards spiral. As we see company such as General Motors and "the Big Three" asking for a 34 billion dollors loan to help them stay up and also they claim that it will even benifit everyone. They would be able to make money and stay away from bankruptcy. They feel that bankruptcy would be the worst in the near means of losing the company totally. I think that this is a huge investment that the tax payers will have to pay for. Yes! more out of our pockets. Its a big loan for such a big company, but the end fact is there is other comapnys for cars out there that may be more reliabe and in the same price catagory which is bringing GM to their grave.

Apollo Alliance: The Renewable Energy Industry

Economists are arguing that the proposed federal bailout of Wall Street will do little for the economy unless it includes provisions to reinvest in infrastructure and refinance mortgages. They also estimate that an additional forty billion dollars in infrastructure investment could create as many as one million new jobs. Smart public investment such as the kind called for in the Apollo Alliance plan for energy independence. The Apollo Alliance going to try to promote the renewable energy industry with a $300 billion investment over the next ten years, creating a little more than three million jobs, leading to economic growth, more tax revenues, and energy independence. I think that this will help my family and many others as well, because it’s creating more jobs for people, giving better tax revenues, and energy independence. I don’t think it will affect my immediate family as much because my father is a Sergeant of police and my mother runs a practice inside Staten Island University hospital. My thoughts that this will concern many people because were is the three billion dollar investment going to be taken out of? Our pockets probably and in the long run would not be what we thought it would be. Other countries that are closely allied with us may not be affected by this because they don’t have to deal with what we are dealing with. The only thing that we may have to worry about is our soldiers in our military because there are great deals of money that go toward that. The government should kept up with what they are trying to do to make our dollar amount go up, to be in par with other countries

Missles in Poland

The United States and Poland missile defense program can be seen as bad because the missiles are not needed. They can be dangerous and the whole world should dispose of them. The missile could cause great and tragic events from great amounts of distances. The missile could be launched from lets say, Iran, and hit the United States. They are very dangerous and basically we have these programs for defense. We should make programs to stop the missile making and destroy them all. Secretary of state Condoleezza Rice signed a missile defense program with Poland and predicted the future president wouldn’t undo the controversial program. Rice signed the deal with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski. Polish President Lech Kaczynski and Prime Minister Donald Tusk were also present. Kaczynski declared that the deal “strengthens the global positioning of the most powerful country in the world.” Rice called it a “landmark.” Under the agreement, the United States will build and operate 10 interceptor missiles in Poland that the administration says are intended for shooting down any long range missiles from nations such as Iran. Russian officials believe that though it is a good plan, it is the first step in construction of a huge interceptor system that could neutralize Russia’s vast missile force, leaving it vulnerable to a first strike nuclear attack. Poland was opening itself to a potential Russian nuclear attack. These missile programs are just creating more havoc in the world even thought they are trying to defend their selves. Programs such as missiles demolition should be put in place and things should be done and new ways should be brought about to stop the missile warfare.

Iranian President in the United States

During Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s campaign, he said “we didn't participate in the revolution for turn-by-turn government.” This revolution tries to reach a world-wide government. Also he has mentioned that he has an extended program on fighting terrorisim in order to improve foreign relations and has called for greater ties with Iran's neighbors and ending visa requirements between states in the region, saying that people should visit anywhere they wish freely. People should have freedom in their pilgramage and tours. He is now coming here to St. John’s University to speak and should be allowed for many reasons. Ahmadinejad coming to St. John’s should be no big deal at all. He should come here to preach to teach us more about Iran and their beliefs. He is against terrorism and has programs fighting against it. He also has programs to improve foreign relations so they could become a better country and not have such a bad reputation anymore. He believes that people should have their freedom of pilgrimage and free speech like the United States has and should be allowed to come here to talk because of this reason. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has many good reasons to come here and also we should listen to what he has to say so we can either agree or disagree with him. That’s the worst thing that can happen. He tries to show many good ways for turniong Iran around and becoming a better country.

Bullies and Drunken Drivers

There are many things some people do in their life because they feel the need to do so, or just to make themselves feel better. As we all were younger we probably noticed the bullies in the school. Those that hurt other kids feelings, embarrassed them in front of other, or even physically hurt others. These bullies do these things to make themselves look better and make other kids afraid of them because they are unsure of themselves. People who driver under the influence of alcohol probably don’t want to embarrass themselves and say they are unable to driver, or do so because they feel like they can. What they may not realize at this time is they are putting many people’s lives in danger, because alcohol slows down reaction time and makes you tired. Bullies are seen throughout our years in school and also many other things we might do such as sports or other activities. They make others feel bad because at the same time its making themselves feel good. Most of the time the characteristics of the parents are passed down to the children. People generally have different attitudes toward things in all different ways. One may look at drunk driving as stupid and would never take the risk. Then there will be others that feel they are invincible and trust themselves too much. Basically these people have the narrow minded characteristics of their parents, or picked up these bad habbits of thinking and acting throughout the years of their life. No one likes a bully and no one likes drunk drivers they are both just a simple means of annoyance and danger in the world.

Gun Control in The United States

Do you think the United States should have stricter gun control? I do, guns could be the most dangerous item on the market to those that are legal age to own one, and even for those who are not of age and can still obtain one. People argue that this violates the second amendment as well as a few others, but back when these amendments were made things were not as they are now. The laws we have currently on gun control, give more opportunities for gun related fatalities. In an article from “The Awesome Library” (a debate on Gun Control from the Brady Center), they say, “The Brady Center argues that when the civilian population has more access to guns, more teens and children die from gun wounds. For example, during a year when over 5,000 teens and children died from gun wounds in the USA, in Great Britain, where gun ownership is very restricted, 19 teens and children died from gun wounds.” The way our laws are with Gun Control are less of Great Britain and maybe should be more stricter so we could reduce this rate of child and teen fatalities. Also the more guns there are in the United States the more opportunity there is for children to obtain them and accidentally cause a disaster, whether it maybe to their self or others. The Amendments that were made long ago may have been the basics and our stepping stone to our human rights, But the fact that now times have change and people just are not the same as the were back when the amendment was created. Gun control in the United States should be more strict and harder to obtain a firearm, so the opportunities for fatalities are reduced. If we don’t have the guns, how can a gun related death occur? They might be protection to many, but when someone is shot there is no getting back up. If they were stabbed or even hit with a punch they have the ability to fight back and could be a less tragic outcome. If a person is beaten at least they can recover even though it could take time, but peoples lives are more precious then you can even imagine, once a person dies there’s no hospitals, there’s no ability to be seen again by family and friends.

Abraham Maslow: Man of Many Ideas

In another class during this semester we learned about a very interesting person in life who brought some great theologies to the world. This man Abraham Maslow was a great guy and gives great understang and can show people different ways of how the human beings come to evolve. Abraham Harold Maslow was born on April 1, 1908 and later died on june 8 of 1970. He is noted for his conception of the Hierarchy of Needs. He was an American psychologist and was considered the founder of humanistic psychology. He was born and raised in brooklyn, went to the city college of New York. Then later on went to the University of Wisconsin, and then went further on to research more at Columbia University. Maslow saw human beings' needs, more like a ladder or stepping stone. The most basic needs are at the bottom, like the physical needs such as air, water, food, sleep. Then the safety needs like security, stability then psychological or social needs like for belonging, love, and acceptance. At the top of it all were the self-actualizing needs, the need to fulfill oneself, and to become who we want to be. Malsow felt that the needs we grow with be lower on the chart then the needs that are part of us growing older and finding, more like a ladder to climb to the next step. The first four levels of the pyramid are said to be the growing levels were we don’t feel anything if they are met, but if we don’t meet the needs we feel as if we have to. The other level is where a person finds differences and motivates us further. The base of the pyramid is formed by the physiological needs. It includes the needs of food, water, air, and sleep. These are more like the essentials of life in order for us to live. The needs in this level are the basics of life and are used by every human. Once the physiological needs are met, we can go on to the next level of safety and security.
